Horizon offers adults opportunities to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and spirit. Classes range from one-session workshops to semester-long courses. Information can also be found in the weekly newsletter and on bulletin boards around the church.

Adult Classes and Spiritual Growth Groups

Most groups sign-ups run through August 31st or September 7 depending on their start date.

Many classes and groups begin September and some begin in January (watch for sign-ups in December). Information about the weekly Sunday Morning Forum topics can be found by scrolling down. Learn more about the Horizon Book group and other fellowship groups HERE. Our 2 session Starting Point Small Group for newcomers happens about once every 3 months.

Our weekly facilitators bring topics that motivate us to live into our UU values, grow spiritually, and learn from one another in our free and responsible search for truth and meaning.  Topics and presenters vary from week to week. Drop-ins welcome. Please contact SMF@horizonuu.org if you have a presentation to give or a fresh topic idea to share.

Exposing The Dark Side of America's AI Data Center Explosion - AI and cloud computing rely on massive data centers that consume large amounts of electricity and water. In places like Virginia, nearby residents contend with constant noise from cooling equipment, while some Arizona facilities use up to a million gallons of water a day for cooling. We will discuss the growth of AI, concerns about its environmental impact, and the need for more sustainable data center practices.

Diverse Leaders Offer an Inclusive Vision Ahead of America 250 - The launch of "Religious Liberty for All: Celebrating This Founding Freedom at America 250," a new report featuring 20 prominent voices on the meaning of religious liberty. The event includes two panel discussions and a keynote by Sen. Chris Coons, highlighting a vision of religious freedom rooted in dignity and the Constitution.

Wisdom in Music - Music is an important source of spirituality and wisdom in our lives. In this session, we will listen to songs and, after each one, discuss the wisdom in the song, whether we agree with it, and how it might help us in our lives. Lyrics to songs will be sent via email and provided in class.

Shedding Light on Dark Matter - Physicist Patricia Burchat sheds light on two basic ingredients of our universe: dark matter and dark energy. Comprising 96% of the universe between them, they can't be directly measured, but their influence is immense.
