Meet the Moment
Unitarian Universalism is facing a reckoning. We know our values are an antidote to fascism; to extractive capitalism; to xenophobia and anti-trans violence and climate devastation. And, we also know we will have to evolve—to sunset what’s no longer serving us, to deepen into what’s working well, and to innovate new solutions with courage and creativity.
Meet the Moment is a Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) framework and program designed to help Unitarian Universalists analyze current religious, cultural, and political trends to identify urgent needs and opportunities. Through collaborative conversations and action, the framework guides members in aligning their values, particularly love, justice, and equity, with impactful strategies for the future of Unitarian Universalism. It aims to foster deep reflection, shared understanding, and courageous, values-based action within congregations and the broader UU community, fostering resilience and transformation.
This fall, and again next spring, some of the most creative, faithful leaders from across the UU ecosystem will be leading topic-oriented Wave Cohorts—praxis groups where people are invited to learn and innovate and practice new ways of embodying our living tradition together in these times.
The Board of Trustees will be going through some of these as a way to identify 'What is our moment?' and finding ways to connect with congregations encountering similar themes. Watch for news about the Board's approach and findings in the church newsletter.
We encourage all of you to read through this material and take this opportunity to join a cohort that interests you to help impact the UUA's discovery process.
