Ages 3-6
Chalice Children: Early childhood is filled with curiosity and wonder. Centered around the symbol of our Flaming Chalice, young children engage in spiritual seeking, develop their openness to sharing, and experience the benefit of a supportive spiritual community.
Grades 1-4
Following the same monthly themes as the adults such as “Awakening Curiosity” and “Cultivating Compassion,” our younger elementary children will explore the themes through the lens of our Unitarian Universalist faith and deepen their understanding of what it means to live as a Unitarian Universalist.
Grades 5-7
In this group the youth will experience our UU values through stories, activities, and games, as well as using game play to reinforce our values. The youth will also engage in service projects like assembling food boxes for Love Pacs and collecting snacks for Families to Freedom.
Coming of Age (grs. 8+)
Coming of Age (COA) is a journey of discovery and discernment of beliefs, values, and religious identity. The class strives to lead youth to live out Horizon’s mission and promote love and justice in the world. The course concludes with the UU Heritage trip to the Boston area, the historic center of American Unitarian Universalism.
Our Whole Lives
This 9 session program helps senior high school youth gain the knowledge, life principles and skills they need to express their sexuality in life-enhancing ways.
Sunday Youth Group
Ages 13+
The youth group will meet on selected Sunday mornings from 10:45-11:45 during the fall semester. Youth Group is youth-led and teens have input on topics covered during their time together.
Lauren Daniell, Director of Religious Education (she/her)
Welcome! I have been serving Horizon since 2013 after a long career as a classroom teacher. I invite you to contact me to learn more about programming for children, youth and families at Horizon at DLRE@horizonuu.org.
I’ve been a Unitarian Universalist since 1995, and was active as a congregant in other UU religious education programs and served on boards of trustees before coming to Horizon.
