Second Chance Players, a local AA non-profit, will be performing The Laramie Project at Horizon UU throughout November for the play’s 25th anniversary year. On Friday, Nov 14 they will host a special fundraiser for our church. 20% of all tickets bought in support of Horizon using the code UUC will be donated to the church. If 25 people attend in support of Horizon, 20% of all ticket sales for the night will be donated to support our church. Attendees who have already purchased tickets without the code can let the greeters know at the door that the ticket was purchased in support of the church.
The Laramie Project follows the aftermath of the murder of Matthew Shepherd, a young gay man, in 1998. The play explores themes of prejudice, hate, and the healing power of community after a tragedy. Since its first production, the play has influenced significant legislative changes including the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act passed in 2009. Its message of tolerance and resilience continues to inspire countless individuals within the LGBTQ+ community today.
All are invited to have a night out on Friday, Nov 14 in support of two great non-profits! Tickets are $25 each. For more information about the play and to buy tickets, please click here.
