Radical Welcome means more than just inviting people in; instead, it means also being a place of inclusion, affirmation and advocacy for those who fall outside of Horizon’s dominant culture. Stay tuned as we build our plans for 2024. We are leading the worship service with Rev Chris on April 7.

The new UU Common Read is On Repentance and Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg (Beacon Press, 2022).
This UU Common Read was announced at the UUA 2023 General Assembly. Available now are an overview of this UU Common Read, Introduction to the Discussion Guides, and Workshop 1 of three that are planned. More Info HERE.
This Common Read offers a glimpse into one of our faith’s foundational sources, Judaism. Readers explore our own call to be accountable in these modern times as we follow Rabbi Ruttenberg into a framework for making amends offered by the 12th century Jewish physician and scholar, Maimonides.
On Repentance and Repair invites readers of any faith to explore practices for accountability that can bring us into wholeness and really make a difference in our personal, community, and national relationships. If you would be interested in facilitating a discussion of this book at Horizon please email justice@horizonuu.org.

An 8th Principle For a Living Tradition
The 7 Principles and 6 Sources of Unitarian Universalism are part of “Article II Principles and Purposes” of the Unitarian Universalist Association bylaws. This is the covenant that congregations make with each other when they join the UUA. UU is a living tradition. We have reviewed and rewritten our principles as time changes us and the world. The Article II Study Commission was charged at the 2020 General Assembly with reviewing and proposing amendments to Article II. They were expressly encouraged to consider incorporating the spirit and intention of the 8th Principle. “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
As of June 18, 2023, 274 UU congregations and groups have adopted the 8th Principle. Congregations and members are encouraged to participate in the work of the commission. Should Horizon add its voice to the support of the 8th Principle? Let’s learn more and have a conversation or three about it. Start the journey by reading the information at 8th Principle and Article II Study Commission. More resources here and HERE.
