Horizon's Community Garden
Horizon Chosen for Fall Chalice Call by the Southern Region UUA
Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church is grateful to be chosen for the Fall Chalice Lighter Call by the Southern Region of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Funds raised will help launch a new community garden planted on the grounds of our beautiful six-acre campus in Carrollton, Texas. Our goal is to raise $11,500 in order to start planting 18 beds in February 2019.
We will be mentored in our creation of the community garden by the Giving Garden of Carrollton, which currently operates 32 beds rented out on a yearly basis to nearby neighbors. They often have a waiting list and are excited to be able to partner with us to help feed our hungry neighbors. Our shared goal is to provide a sustainable community garden opportunity for the citizens of Carrollton and neighboring communities, without regard to demographic or socioeconomic status.
Community service will be an integral goal of Horizon’s Community Garden. Gardeners will donate 50% of their garden produce, based on either weight or count, to designated charitable organizations. Donations will go to Christian Community Action (CCA) in Lewisville, Texas, serving southern Denton County residents, and Metrocrest Services, which assists individuals living in Carrollton, Addison, Farmers Branch, Coppell, and the city of Dallas (75287) in Denton County.
