Habitat for Humanity Projects

Posted in Social Justice Ministry

Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Horizon's HFH volunteers get together with other Collin County volunteers on the fourth Saturday of every month to build simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

HFH meets on the 4th Saturday of every month, and Jan McDowell is the coordinator for Horizon's HFH effort. To participate email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. She sends reminder emails to the volunteers and provides the address of the house the volunteers will repair. Typical work times are 8a.m. to 4 p.m. HFH requires each volunteer to attend an orientation before their first time to work. Information about the orientation can be found on the HFH North Collin County website.

Information on the International program can be found at the Habitat.org website.
