Adult religious exploration at Horizon strives to grow spiritually healthy people by offering a wide variety of programing to enrich the mind and feed the spirit. Many different classes are offered each semester, ranging from building your own theology, to deepening your understanding of the world’s religions, to exploring Unitarian Universalist history and theology.

The Sunday morning Adult Religious Explorations Forum features a variety of topics and guest presenters, and class focus varies from week to week. Our weekly facilitators bring topics that motivate us spiritually and challenge us intellectually. No RSVP required – Drop ins welcome.
Horizon Book Group
Every Fourth Tuesday
Bring a brown bag lunch and join this fun group that explores one book each month. Share an invigorating conversation about classic and contemporary titles. Please email the organizers in advance to learn which book will be discussed.
The Inquirers Series: Getting to Know Horizon and Unitarian Universalism

Inquirers is a series of hour-long sessions for those who wish to learn more about Horizon and Unitarian Universalism. Topics will range from the Seven Principles and a brief history of Unitarian Universalism to a tour of the church and a question and answer session with Rev. Lora. Each Sunday’s topic will be announced during the worship service. No RSVP required – child care provided.

All Horizon members and friends are invited to participate in special monthly small groups to deepen their faith and develop spiritual practices in community while reflecting upon the monthly worship theme. Three sections are offered each month to accommodate busy schedules and participants can change sections month to month. Although monthly attendance is encouraged, skipping months is possible. One may join the Reflection Groups any time during the year.
Women’s Journey Group
2nd and 4th Sundays September-May

This is a group for women to practice deep listening and sharing. Past topics have included gratitude, forgiveness, loss and grief, nature, friendship, doubt, sustainable living, and the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism. New groups form in the early fall and spring semesters.
Tuesdays 7:15pm – 9:15pm
Weekly group meetings include a check-in and discussion of a life issue topic selected by a group member. These have included appreciation, success and failure, fear, procrastination, and staying optimistic in hard times. Please email in advance before visiting.
Workshops and Semester Classes
Each semester Horizon Growth and Learning offers a variety of classes to support our adult learners’ intellectual and spiritual growth. Spanning 1-8 class sessions, courses can range from topics such as spiritual development, Unitarian Universalist history and theology, and ethical living.

- What Moves You? workshops in spiritual practices
- Building Your Own Theology I-III
- The UUA Common Read; a yearly social justice-oriented book studied denomination-wide to promote awareness of social justice issues and spur action
- Advocating for Reproductive Justice
- The Shared Pulpit; Sermon Writing for Lay People
- Being White in the Black Lives Matter Movement
- UU History film series, “Long, Strange Trip; Two Thousand Years of Unitarian Universalist history”
