Art on the Horizon
Art on the Horizon's mission is to reach out to the local community of artists who visually reflect the spirit of our church. We in return, reflect back to the community the spirit of our faith.
Table Fellowship
There are many opportunities to share a common table with other friends and members at Horizon. Here are some different ways to meet up with old and new friends:
(Mostly) Second Sunday Potlucks
Once a month, typically on the second Sunday, we host a potluck meal in the fellowship hall after worship. We ask that if you and your family are participating to bring a little extra to share, so that we have plenty for our visitors on that day! Visit 2nd Sunday Potlucks for more details.
Horizon Dinners
Horizon Dinners is an ongoing Saturday evening ministry that meets once a month in people's houses. Each month, a host provides the room, table and entree, and the arranged guests provide the extras. After Church Lunch Bunch
Each Sunday (except Potluck Sunday!) a group of friends and members go off to lunch at a local restaurant after worship. The restaurants change every month and are generally posted on the bulletin boards and listed in the_week@horizonuu.org. Visit After Church Lunch Bunch for more information.
Horizon Dinners
Horizon Dinners
One terrific way to meet Horizon members is through our monthly Horizon Dinners. We meet on the third Saturday of each month. The group is re-shuffled each month, so you have the opportunity to get to know lots of long-time and new members. Typically, the host provides the appetizers and drinks, and all the guests bring the rest of the meal. The host, of course, specifies how many people they have room for, and the groups are set up accordingly. Many people are unable to ever host, and that's okay, too. Everyone is contributing to the success of the dinner.
We'd love to have new additions to the group! Whether you're new or a veteran, please think about joining in. If you haven't done Horizon Dinners in a long time, you'll find that many new members are ready and anxious to meet you. And if you're a newer member, it's really one of the best ways to start making connections with others. If you want to be added to the e-mailing list, please contact dinners@horizonuu.org.
Service Auctions: Pasta and Fiasco
PASTA and FIASCO make it fun to raise funds that support our church. Actually, they are really just a great excuse for a party twice a year!
Our annual spring fundraising auction is called FIASCO while PASTA is usually held in the fall and features a delicious Italian dinner (thus the name!) Members donate items, events, services, and classes that are then put into a silent auction. A few good examples include use of members’ vacation homes, a private dinner in a home or special restaurant, a bridge party, hand-made jewelry and even Spanish lessons. There is always entertainment, refreshments and lots of fun!!!
Check the church calendar for these exciting events and plan to enjoy two evenings a year with your fellow fundraisers!

Don’t leave the date “to-be-determined.” People are reluctant to bid without being sure of the date. For a dinner or an outing, pick a specific date if at all possible, with a backup rain date if outdoors.
Don’t be bashful in describing your offering. Advertising works!

Women's Retreat
Visit with old friends and make new ones at our annual gathering. Relax and read, eat and talk, wade in the river, sing karaoke, and dance!
It’s never too early to start planning! When you look at your 2012 calendar reserve the weekend of Sept. 28-30 to attend Horizon’s 24th Annual Women’s Retreat. Women who are members or regular visitors of Horizon and are over 21 are welcome.
Horizon Outdoors
Campouts
Horizon Outdoors is a group of like-minded individuals who gather for fellowship in our great outdoors.
They come together for special trips, including two yearly camping trips, one in the spring and one in the fall. These are family-friendly opportunities to gather with other UUs who appreciate spending time together in nature. Often these trips will be partnered with other area UU church families and will offer both tent camping and rental shelters.
