Community Circle

Our Ministries of Support

Community is one of the five circles at Horizon and represents pastoral, membership services and other ways of connecting. Together, we are a web that supports and stretches, contains and cares for the members and friends that find a home here, as well as the folks we encounter in the wider community.  NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS

Horizon’s membership is divided into neighborhood groups, with one or more coordinators for each group.  Neighborhood groups provide local support to church members when they have a family crisis or emergency.  They also welcome new members and introduce them to other Horizon members in their neighborhood.  These groups occasionally engage in local social and community support activities.  Neighborhood groups currently exist for:

Addison / Farmers Branch / West Dallas

Carrollton North

Carrollton South / Far North Dallas

Central an East Dallas / Richardson

Coppell / Irving

The Colony / Little Elm / Far North Carrollton

Denton / Corinth / Highland Village

Flower Mound

Frisco / Allen / McKinney

Lewisville

Plano

Grapevine / Colleyville / Southlake / Mid-Cities (Tarrant County)

CALLING CIRCLE

The Horizon Calling Circle is a group of volunteers, trained in the art of listening, who gather monthly to telephone members of the church. This ministry is an important way that we maintain our covenant of walking life’s path together, and staying aware of what is happening in the lives of the congregation and the life of the church. Members of the Calling Circle meet on the first Friday of each month, share a dinner together and makes phone calls to members and friends of Horizon.  For more information, email This email address is being protected from spambots. SECOND SUNDAY POTLUCK

All church pot lucks are typically held monthly, on the 2nd Sunday of the month after the service.  Together, we provide a bountiful spread that allows us to offer the hospitality of our potluck to every visitor, friend and member.  Homemade, take-out and store-bought items are all welcome. Members are asked to volunteer to set up, serve or clean up once a year.  Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. AFTER CHURCH LUNCH BUNCH

One way to get to know people from Horizon better is to join us for a casual lunch after church.  We meet at various local restaurants around 11:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Check the welcome desk display for the week’s meeting place as the locations are subject to change.  Everyone is welcome (even friends and family joining you after church).

 HORIZON DINNERS

Horizon Dinners meet on the third Saturday of each month.  The group is reshuffled each month, so you have the opportunity to get to know lots of long-time and new members.  Typically the host provides the appetizers and drinks, and the guests bring the rest of the meal. The host specifies how many people they have room for and the groups are set up accordingly.  Many people are unable to ever host and that is okay too.  Everyone is contributing to the success of the dinner.  Whether you are a new or a seasoned member, think about joining in.  It is one of the best ways to make connections with others.  If you want to be added to the emailing list, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. EXPLORING HORIZON

Periodically throughout the year, classes are held for those who want to know more about UU and Horizon.  In New to UU you will learn about the history and traditions of Unitarian Universalism and Horizon, share your religious or spiritual journey, if you want, and expand your circle of friends.   How Do U Fit into UU?  provides specifics of how the church and its membership support each other, how to get involved in the life of the church, the governing structure of the church and the Horizon community as a whole.  For more information contact:  This email address is being protected from spambots.
